On the up?
My impression of the resort is that it has been allowed to decline over the years, but that the owners are trying to improve it again.
The grounds, common areas (e.g. breakfast room) and buidling exteriors are all well maintained. In our room the A/C appeared to have been recently replaced (as did the whole block), and the room itself was clean and looked to be repainted annually. However, some of the room features need more than a coat of paint - the bathroom had several cracked and broken tiles, the mirror was very rusty around the edges and the bath itself and shower fittings were a bit rickety. So, I would say the rooms are in need of some refreshment, and my impression is that the owners are trying to do that a bit at a time. The thing that would improve it significantly right now is putting in some bulbs that actually light the place up. Lots of lights, but all with very low power bulbs; mood lighting, as long as the mood you are going for is frustration that you can't see anything.
The rooms used to be self catering, and at least one holiday website continues to advertise them as having a fully functional kitchenette. They have a kitchen sink, kettle and fridge, but nothing else. The apartment layout also harks back to self catering times with a separate bedroom and kitchen / diner area.
Beds very hard (as others have mentioned).
The staff could not be more helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. We were there right at the end of the season just before they shut, so fewer guests, but the maid service and reception could not have been more helpful for any questions.
The location is great for central Acharavi - maybe 250m from the central roundabout and with lots of bars, restaurants, supermarkets etc. very close by, even at the end of the season with a lot already closed. The nearest beach is a bit of a walk (10-15 minutes), with Roda beach being the nicest part (about a 40 minute walk). The final bit up to the hotel, and then the walk up to the rooms is steep, but compensated for by the view from the balcony over the town and out to sea. Also note that the airport transfer service may drop you/collect you in the town rather than at the hotel itself (ours did as the road up to the hotel too narrow for coaches).
Pool is OK. Partly in shade so chilly at end of season - to be expected. Pool towels available for a 10 euro deposit. Sunbeds, ping-pong table and volleyball in teh grounds if you're feeling enrgetic.
Breakfast was not as comprehensive as some places we've stayed, with the usual selection of pastries, cheese and meats, hot food, bread etc. that changed daily. As others have said the coffee is not the best, but significntly improved if you don't add machine milk (powdered?), but instead use the hot or cold fresh milk from the ceral table.
Overall, was perfectly adequate and pleasant. Overriding sense was of a place that has declined in recent years, but which the owners are trying to modernise and renovate.
GREAT LOCATION
Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel great staff, breakfast catered for all European travellers, clean rooms a bit dated and the beds were terrible, ask for a mattress topper on arrival to make it more comfortable, the location is great for an evening stroll along the beach
Family holiday + 3
We had a clean, spacious apartment with an amazing sea view. The apartments are well spread out amongst verdant well maintained grounds on a hillside, so some steep slopes/steps to negotiate.
Our "superior" apartment, described as self-catering, had no cooking or food preparation facilities. A kettle, 2 cups, 2 glasses, and a fridge were all the kitchenette offered.
The location is tranquil within a short walk from many amenities and beach.
There was plenty of choice from the breakfast buffet and a convenient pool bar.
Overall, though, it was a lovely resort.
Basic Hotel. Ok to stay
Century Resort is a fairly basic hotel, and during our stay, it wasn’t very busy. The breakfast was adequate, but I would rate it more as an upper 3-star than a 4-star hotel. Our arrival at 9:30 pm was met with a rather impersonal greeting; we were simply handed the keys and given brief directions to our apartment. If you're looking for a hassle-free, basic stay in Corfu and don’t plan on traveling to the city much, this hotel could be a good option. Just keep in mind that Corfu Town and the airport are about 90 minutes away.
Disappointing/Out Dated/Poor Location
My honest opinion, do not book this hotel. We loved Acharavi and will return but to different accommodation! The hotel is too far from the beach and the village, the steepness of the road to walk to our room was awful and we are a pretty fit family. It meant we packed our beach bags for the day and didn’t return until the evening. Yes the hotel is out dated but what really dragged this resort down is it has no atmosphere, no staff interaction, nobody hangs out in the resort as it’s so uninviting. Breakfast is awful and the coffee machine is dire. The air conditioning in our family room leaked constantly and I slipped badly on the floor. Our kids room flooded every time they showered or flushed the loo, we reported it a few times then gave up! The beds are rock hard and the kitchen area only has a kettle and 3 cups and saucers, oh and a fridge - this was a superior, sea view family suite - can’t imagine how bad a regular room would be!
My top tip is rent an apartment in the village or near the beach as each restaurant/bar offers free sun loungers and the sea and beach is beautiful.
I must mention we booked Century because it had a pool but never used it as the pool area is disgusting and depressing. The only regulars around the pool bar were the breakfast staff.
No way is this a TUI 4 star, more like 2 star, surprised TUI promote this resort!
Acharavi is wonderful, unfortunately we booked the wrong accommodation - Century Resort is definitely not a gem!
