    A great experience
Had a wonderful week here on 16th October. The location of this hotel is good as you can catch the bus right outside to the old town for 2 euros. I urge you to take a tour inland to see some of the little villages..we booked ours at an agency in the town. The staff and food at the hotel were great. Unfortunately for us the weather was overcast. We loved Crete.

A lovely hotel for those wanting a truly quiet & relaxing holiday. It’s on a lovely beach and is a 10 minute bus ride to Chania for €2 one way, which has a gorgeous harbour, plenty of shops & delightful restaurants. There’s also plenty of restaurants near the hotel if you go half board. There are an abundance of sun beds both round the pools and on the beach. The buffet restaurant is plentiful and caters for all at every meal time. The cooking stations are best if you want hot food as some of the hot meals are only warm. The service is great, staff are very pleasant and nobody is nattering you to join in any activities. We were upgraded to a Junior beachfront suite with a private pool and Sun loungers - lovely. (Room 123) We were also given a plate of fruit & a complimentary bottle of red wine! The room is cleaned daily, towels are also changed daily and water is restocked for each person. Beds are changed every other day. There is a coffee machine in the room and a huge tv. We had a jacuzzi bath but didn’t use it as the shower was powerful and warm. Bathrobes are provided as are complimentary toiletries - mostly Elemis, which was very luxurious. The only downside is that toilet paper is not able to be flushed, which seemed odd for a 5* hotel. The a la carte restaurants are great, especially the Italian. The food was absolutely delicious! Some of the decor is tired and could do with an upgrade but it’s not something to complain about. The only downside is that the pools were freezing cold and therefore rarely in use. I expect it feels different in the height of summer but we couldn’t use them in October, sadly. Having stayed at 5* hotels, I would say this is a top end 4*, but I would 100% recommend it for a totally relaxing holiday.

Simple, upscale rest and relaxation by the sea
We just came back from a week at the Kalliston. We went for a much-needed vacation as well as a birthday celebration. We wanted an adults-only resort where we could simply chill out without worrying about anything -- and we got exactly that. This is a good place for a relaxing, balanced vacation. It has some great food, great service, full amenities, beautiful location, stunning views, and no stress whatsoever. It is not the most "luxe" five-star place I've ever been, but it checks all the main boxes, and the staff is top-notch. We have been to Greece before, so we didn't go this time to explore or delve deeply into the culture like we usually do. We went to the Kalliston to relax, and we did! The resort is mid-size, spread out over several low buildings with multiple pools and gardens; it feels both intimate and spacious. Most importantly, we wanted someplace quiet right on a good beach. The Kalliston Atlantic is on a lovely, shallow, long gold-sand beach with cobalt blue-aquamarine waters and gentle waves. (At the end of October, it was a bit windy, which sometimes made it chilly, but we spend most of our time on the beach loungers anyway). It is close to the town of Chania, and you can rent a car (as we did one day) on-site to explore the central mountains and to go to the famous beaches on the west coast. There is also some good hiking around nearby coves and other beaches. If you're up for being more intrepid than we were, KA could make a good base for traveling about the western half of the island. Rooms at the KA are simple, clean, and modern -- not overly glamorous -- but with everything we needed, from a minibar to hairdryer to robes and slippers. What's more, we requested a Superior Seaview room on a top floor, and we were given just that. #702 overlooks the entire beach on two sides, plus the property, pools, gardens, the town and the dramatic coastline beyond it. Added bonus: we got to watch the sunset every night from our balcony. We felt that the resort really considered our requests when it assigned us this room. The Kalliston Atlantica also has a well-appointed gym, a spa, and several pools with plenty of loungers. The public spaces, though not thoroughly updated, are spacious and have excellent views. As for the food: there is a main restaurant, Deep Blue, that serves a delicious, extensive buffet breakfast every morning (fresh orange juice, excellent made-to-order egg station), though its buffet dinner left a lot to be desired. (The selection was broad, but the food was not very good. My first selections were all cold and nearly inedible; stick with the fresh grill station and Greek offerings). What was terrific, though, were all three "a la carte" restaurants on the property: Greek, Italian, and Asian. Since we took the "all-inclusive option," we were able to eat almost all of our dinners at these, and none of these disappointed. Every a la carte meal was excellent -- and we loved the service and decor at each restaurant as well. Ditto the local white wines. (Unsurprisingly, the Greek restaurant, Glarus, was my favorite of the three). As for entertainment, there is a dj playing music by the beach bar for 3 hours midday a few times each week; I thought this would be annoying, but it wasn't. There were also some cheesy lounge acts in the evenings at the lobby bar that some other guests seemed to enjoy. (We preferred the moonlit beach.) Yet what truly made the Kalliston special was the service. Every single person on staff whom we dealt with was so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They made my birthday celebration really special, surprising me with cake and bubbly in our room. When we went for our day trip, they provided us with a picnic lunch. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. All week, they took care of everything for us with real kindness. They are what really earn the Kalliston Atlantic its five stars. To be fair, there were a few "glitches": a hot tub in the gym that wasn't in service; some watery cocktails; outdoor pools that had grown cooler in late October than I'd have liked. Bot overall, I would highly recommend the Kalliston Atlantic to people who want a relaxing, effortless beach vacation in Crete -- without poseur-y glitz, but with friendly, unobtrusive service, nice clean spaces, great a la carte food -- and the sound of the waves greeting you every morning and lulling you to sleep every night.

    Highly recommend
We had a wonderful week at this hotel. Can not say anything negative. From the arrival to the departure. The friendly staff, service, environment, food, room. You can walk in to Chania, takes about 1 hour to the center. The busstop in to Chania is just across the road of the hotel. We will be back

    Perfection from start to finish
We stayed at the Kalliston in July 2024 and cannot fault this hotel from start to finish. My partner had contacted the hotel prior to our arrival to plan a surprise proposal during our holiday. We received a room upgrade on arrival which was sensational. The friendly welcoming staff in all areas of the hotel was evident from the very moment we arrived. My partner had booked a private dinner on the beach front where we were served by the amazing Michalis who was an absolute joy and a treasure! Food was absolutely incredible. The staff perfected and orchestrated the most wonderful proposal on the beach at sunset with photos and the special moment captured by them on camera. It was the most perfect setting, atmosphere and once in a lifetime moment ever. We cannot thank the management and staff enough for a truly special, wonderful stay and we look forward to returning to our special place very soon. A very special place!
